Optimization of a Metal Attachment for the Fuel Intake Interface of a Vehicle with HyperMesh

The objective of this project is to strengthen a metal attachment (in orange) in order to limit the vertical displacement of the connection head (in blue), while optimizing the shape of the part.

Mesh Setup

  • Extraction of median surfaces from the geometry
  • Meshing with shell elements tailored to the critical areas’ finesse

Contact Management

  • Creation of contacts between different parts, specifically between the head and the tube

Boundary Conditions

  • Definition of rigid bodies to simulate the non-deformable parts
  • Setting up constraints

Loading

  • Creation of a central loading node
  • Linking this node to the head through rigid bodies
  • Application of a vertical force to simulate service conditions

Displacement Calculation

Topological Optimization

  • Delimitation of the optimizable area
  • Generation of an optimized geometry, with the appearance of a structural rib to limit the displacement of the head
